How did I become a "Soaper"?!!!!
For a very long time, I have appreciated using Homemade Soap.
I am one of those people who loves to make things and marveled at the Soap Makers that I purchased from, for their talent and patience. I did not realize how much patience they had though, until I attempted the process myself!
I started researching the process through books and the Internet. The information I found available was more than sufficient, the only roadblock was finding a supplier for the oils I wanted to use.
A very reputable supplier was found through a long time friend Tom. I appreciate him for getting me down the road a little further and also for his very valuable marketing advice, gained through his experience as a candlemaker.
The marketing advice is easier to take than his humour!
So, I started making soap. Words cannot really describe some fo the first batches. They ranged from liquid to concrete! I rendered fat thinking I would like the old fashioned type of soap. This was not for me, I could always deted a hint of tallow from it.
I decided good quality carrier oils were the way to go if I was to be happy with the product. I still had some batches that were not fit for human eyes, but with time and persistence, I know I have created a product that I am proud to use and share with others.
BarrSoap is produced in our home in Saskatchewan, Canada.
The environment is smoke and pet free.
There is no animal testing-just friends and relatives!
What the heck is superfatting????
Superfatting a soap is done at the end of the soap making process. Special oils are added just before the soap is poured into molds for their first curing stage. The addition of oils at this stage allows the oils to remain free, not combining with the sodium hydroxide, so your skin will benefit fully from the effects of the oils used. Very beneficial to dry skin.
A note about color
Personally, I do not feel a need for wild colored soap in my life. I do, however, like a bit swirled throughout a "Barr" or a bit of color added for a change. Most of the colors produced are either the natural reaction of the oils; carrier, essential and fragrance, with the sodium hydroxide solution. Also, the addition of spices and flowers contribute to the color produced.
BarrSoap contains combinations of these oils:
Avacado Oil
Castor Oil
Cocoa Butter
Coconut Oil
Evening Primrose Oil
Jojoba Oil
Olive Oil
Palm Oil
Shea Nut Butter
Sweet Almond Oil
Tea Tree Oil
Wheat Germ Oil
Weights
Weights listed are the minimum. They may vary slightly, the reason being that all 'Barrs' are hand-cut.
BarrSoap is made from 'scratch'
Blending of sodium hydroxide and distilled water with the highest quality carrier oils, essential oils and fragrance oils at precise temperatures assures you of a very high quality product.
The soap is made in small batches and cured over a period of time.
This product is made, not only to be pleasing to look at, but also to be used regularly in the bath, shower and at the sink.
Please use it and enjoy!
